Design Challenges-
During her tenure at Atul Desai Consultants Pvt Ltd, Architect Shalmali got exposure to a lot of high rise residential projects. She worked closely with teams of some very well known developers of Mumbai. One of the challenges was to get the Design elevations approved from the clients. Many options were required in order to deliver aesthetically pleasing elevations that would meet the client's requirement in every aspect. There was always a constraint of using conventional construction technology yet deliver an extraordinary design. Each project comprised of many such design options for various elements. Beside the building facades Clubhouse design, Penthouse designs, crowning elements and Podium elevations required to be handled with the same vigor.
Residential Building - Podium Design

In one such high rise residential buildings the podium design had become a difficult topic. The client was not convinced with any proposals given in a conventional way. The concern was that the building's podium was the first thing any viewer would see from the human eye level, so it had to be unique but within the budget. After providing many options, three designs were shortlisted. Option-1 had verticals created in a rhythmic pattern enveloping the 5-floor parking levels, option 2 and 3 were designed to be in precast Jalis with customised sizes and design as per the site conditions. Out of the three, Option-1 was selected as it had the most unique idea of it's time.
